CMHA recognizes Recovery Month 2020
Nov 24, 2020
September is Recovery Month and CMHA Ottawa joins organizations around the world in recognizing this important event. According to Addictions & Mental Health Ontario (AMHO), 22 per cent of Canadians will be affected by addiction in their lifetime. Recovery Month gives them the opportunity to share stories, talk about treatment options, and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction.
CMHA Ottawa offers its clients access to the Recovery Library by Pat Deegan, featuring resources, videos and articles on the lived-experience of recovery and wellness. If you are a client of CMHA Ottawa and you’re interested in finding out about the Recovery Library and its proven, helpful materials, please ask your worker.
Recovery looks different for everyone. We must continue to speak openly about addiction so those struggling know they are not alone. To show support, members of the public are encouraged to share their stories and use the #RecoveryMonth hashtag on social media.
If you or someone you know needs help, you can find our referral form for services here. The Community Addictions Peer Support Association (CAPSA) is a nonprofit organization of people affected by addiction located in Ottawa that provides opportunities to integrate into the broader community through peer support initiatives and community engagement projects.
