CMHA Ottawa’s smoking cessation program is a unique program that helps people with severe mental illness quit smoking. Studies show that up to 85% of those with severe mental illness use tobacco products and 40% of individuals smoke more than 40 cigarettes a day. Participants at CMHA Ottawa are supported for smoking cessation through engagement, education, peer support and pharmacotherapy. In addition to meeting with a group, participants also receive one-to-one nursing support on a weekly basis.
