Inspiring story of CMHA Ottawa smartphones pilot project featured on CBC
Jun 30, 2020
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when public health authorities asked everyone to shelter in place and practice physical distancing, our team at CMHA Ottawa knew we would have to act fast to stay connected with our clients. We immediately acquired more than 150 smartphones, set up data plans, and begun to distribute them to our clients.
CBC Ottawa recently shared one such story of a client of CMHA Ottawa who received a smartphone from his case worker.
- CBC Radio One – Ottawa Morning with Robyn Bresnahan: Phone brings connection to the outside world for a man struggling with depression [LISTEN]
- CBC News: Smartphone opens a world of human connection [WATCH] (segment starts at 7:20 mark).
We at CMHA Ottawa believe that everyone has a right to meaningful social connection. We will continue to advocate and work hard for technological parity in the time of COVID-19 and beyond.
