#GetLoud for Increased Mental Health Funding

Ninety per cent of Canadians support the creation of a federal government fund to help provinces and territories better meet mental health and addictions needs. This is according to a 2015 Nanos Research poll, commissioned by CMHA. 90 per cent! The demand for increased mental health funding has never been greater.

In addition, CMHA is fully behind Canada’s national mental health strategy (2012), which calls on all governments in Canada to: increase the proportion of health spending devoted to mental health from 7% to 9% over 10 years; and increase the proportion of social spending devoted to mental health by 2% from current levels.

GET LOUD by telling the people we elect that funding for mental health is crucial.

Here’s how you can make a difference

Email or mail your local elected representatives and tell them you want them to GET LOUD for the mental health of Canadians.

Ask them what they’re doing to support increased funding for mental health, mental illness and addiction programs and services.

Tell them we need sustainable mental health funding for all Canadians. We need a Mental Health Transition and Innovation Fund for Canada.

We’ve created a letter for you to use or edit.

If you’d like to use it as is, simply download the letter and send it to your local MP or MPP or to your Provincial Minister of Health.

So let’s GET LOUD and let our governments know that change is in the air. We will change how mental health, mental illness and addiction services are funded in Canada.

You can find additional information and resources here in our #GETLOUD for increased mental health funding toolkit.
