Globe and Mail’s Open Mind series features CMHA Ottawa client

The Globe and Mail recently featured one of our clients, Renee, for their Open Mind series on improving mental health research, diagnosis and treatment. “At the end, I didn’t want to live any more,” Renee says. On the street, “you are surrounded by people, but it’s the loneliest feeling ever.”

Now, she says brightly, “I am not using, I am not lost and all over the place. Since I moved in, only good things have been happening.”

Renee used to be homeless, but found a home with the support of CMHA Ottawa. You can read more about her story and the importance of housing first with Sam Tsemberis, the founder of Pathways to Housing, in this Globe and Mail article.

You can also hear from Renee in this video for the Alliance to End Homelessness and the 20,000 Homes Campaign, a national movement to permanently house 20,000 of Canada’s most vulnerable homeless people by July 1, 2018.
